The United States Mexico Canada trade agreement has finally been passed by our Congress, with substantial bi-partisan majorities. According to the International Trade Commission, the agreement, after it is fully implemented, will mean 176,000 additional jobs in the U.S., and an additional $65.2 billion in GNP. Under the agreement, there will be no tariffs on most agricultural products, so the State of Iowa, and especially Iowa farmers, will see significant benefits. I think most people understand that when Iowa farmers do well the rest of the Iowa economy benefits also. The agreement will be in force for 16 years. Some people do not realize that Canada and Mexico, not China, are our largest trading partners.
