I know of no formula that tells us how to weigh health risks to our citizens, and the damage to our economy and way of life caused by prolonged shutting down of part of our economy. I think most of us agree that we cannot continue the shutdown of a significant part of our economy for too long a period of time. Over the years we have made many sacrifices, of various kinds to protect our way of life. Many, but not all, were military in nature. Highly contagious threats to our health have been uncommon, but not unprecedented. We have dealt with past threats, no matter what their nature, and we will deal with this one.
