In December, Warren County for Clean Water spoke to the Warren County Supervisors about the Master Matrix.

This is a scoring system for factory farm applicants to evaluate whether or not they should be allowed to build, and looks at separation distances, along with air, water, and community impacts.

If the Board passes this in January, they can provide feedback to the DNR for any factory farm proposed in Warren County. If they don’t pass it, the DNR will decide with no input from the Supervisors and, most likely, approve the application.

Warren County for Clean water supports FAMILY farms. We oppose FACTORY farms because of their history of polluting Iowa’s water. For more information, check out https://iowacci.org/farming-environment/master-matrix-toolkit/.

Please contact your County Supervisor and ask them to vote yes.

Also, consider joining Warren County for Clean Water, part of Iowa Citizens for Community Development. Contact me for an invitation to our next monthly meeting heidemanron@gmail.com.

Thank you for your article Ron Heideman in support of clean water for Warren county. I had no idea this organization existed. Moving into a new decade, and going forward, clean water, air, and soil will be some of the biggest problems we will face environmentally. I will gladly contact the Board with my support.
