“Chaos,” a word older than dirt, ended last month’s column and begins this writing. For the Egyptians in 4,000 BC, chaos described the beginning of the universe as an unending formless empty void. The concept was used by the Greeks and then the Romans before Moses carried it forward to Genesis, the Bible’s first book.
