Southeast Warren Schools will close the Lacona location following the 2024-25 school year. District officials hope the move will help balance the district's budget.

The Southeast Warren School Board voted Wednesday to close its Lacona elementary school building at the end of the 2024-25 school year in an effort to take control of its annual deficit, expected to be $583,857 at the end of the 2023-24 school year, and $318,739 at the end of 2024-25.

Southeast Warren Schools will move sixth-grade students to the high school in Liberty Center.

Fourth and fifth-grade students will move from the Lacona school building to Milo after the 2024-25 school year.
