Ryder Downey won by Tech Fall over Eleazar Valerio from Davenport North, 17-2 during the first day of competition in the traditional State wrestling tournament Thursday. Downey moves on to the next round.

Sean Cunningham fell to Timothy Nimely of Muscatine but came back to defeat Mason Sherwood of Urbandale 4-0 during the first day of competition in the traditional State wrestling tournament Thursday.
Jacob Darr lost a close (6-4) bout to Evan Surface of Epworth, Western Dubuque, and then lost a "nail biter" to Colin Flannagan of Cedar Rapids-Kennedy 7-4. Either bout could have fallen his way.
Indianola’s wrestlers weren’t the only ones at the traditional State wrestling tournament Thursday. Junior Erica Knupp was one of two Indianola students to sing the national anthem during the first day of competition in the traditional State wrestling tournament Thursday.
Bowen Downey defeated Ayden Nicklaus of Davenport West 14-2 to advance in the State Wrestling Tournament Thursday.
