Historian speaks on Carver

Winterset historian Linda Griffith Smith was the guest presenter at the Indianola Activity Center. She discussed the life story of George Washington Carver and his time in Iowa including Winterset, Indianola, and Ames. Carver was born into slavery in Missouri, moved multiple times before coming to Iowa in 1888. He attended Simpson College and Iowa State in Ames. Carver became America’s most prominent Black scientist of the early 20th century. The program is sponsored by Community 1st Credit Union.
