The Indianola Elks Lodge hosted a community feed, preparing and giving away about 500 servings of pulled pork sandwiches, chips and cookies Saturday to first responders, people in need and essential workers.

The idea began when the COVID-19 pandemic scuttled plans for a spring fundraiser, said Eric Halligan. “We were planning on doing a BBQ as a fundraiser this month, but with the COVID thing that got cancelled,” he said. “Allan (Keller, a trustee with the club) mentioned doing this as a giveaway instead of a fundraiser.”

Keller said someone else suggested the idea to him. Wherever it came from, it was a hit with club members, and the community members who stopped in for dinner.
